Frequently Asked Questions
How do I choose a good transmission repair facility?
A reputable repair shop will cover all parts
and all labor for the set amount of time
and miles. Not just some of the parts
or some of the labor.
What should a warranty cover?
A transmission repair problem after being fixed is not usually a repeated repair. Call your area transmission shops and ask about their warranties, call the Better Business Bureau, ask family or friends. A good repair shop will usually give you a long warranty if they have confidence in their work.
How am I sure that I have a transmission problem aside from the obvious fact my vehicle is not moving?
Most vehicles, Foreign and Domestic have computer controlled transmissions. When there is a malfunction in the system the computer will put the vehicle into what’s called a failsafe or limpin mode. Those symptoms would include very hard or abrupt shifting, or the vehicle will not come out of 2nd gear. At that point it needs to be taken to a qualified transmission repair facility for proper electronic diagnosis.
What do I do if my vehicle is leaking transmission fluid?
This is indicative of a transmission problem. You should consult with a transmission mechanic right away.
Should my transmission be serviced regularly?
Yes, if you want optimal performance. It is recommended that the fluid and filter be changed every year or every 12,000 miles.
Are all transmission repairs major overhauls?
Not necessarily, there are many electronic components that will cause the transmission to malfunction. Many times to repair it can be done at a fraction of the cost of a major overhaul.
